West Chicago Community Gardens
About the Program
West Chicago residents can rent a 4’ x 8’ raised garden bed from Healthy West Chicago at the West Chicago Community Garden for $5 a plot or may apply to see if eligible to receive a free raised garden plot through The GardenWorks Project Initiative.
In an effort to provide West Chicago residents access to locally grown organic produce, this program was initiated through Healthy West Chicago’s partnership with The GardenWorks Project and People Made Visible Inc.
The GardenWorks Project helps families facing food-insecurity in DuPage County build vegetable gardens and provide them with organic gardening education. Their clients received a 4’ x 8’ raised bed garden, soil, compost, seedlings, seeds and gardening tools, and access to all the educational tools needed to grow a successful garden from seed to harvest.
